The Honeysuckle Dream by Kate Frost

Two men. Three decades. One decision.

Pregnant at nineteen from an affair with a married man, Leila goes against her parents’ wishes. Alone in an unfamiliar city, a fresh start is terrifying.

Leila struggles to navigate between being a single working mum, new friendships, and her bad choices in men. The heartache of past mistakes haunts her. Disillusioned, lonely, and with a fractured mother-daughter relationship, she swaps the vices of city life for the peace of the country. Yet new-found happiness is short-lived and old habits return.

Can Leila let go of her past and find true love?

This book was so not what I was expecting when I picked it up, you know the traditional romance with the happily ever after that I usually read. It did however catch my attention when I started reading and had me hooked to the extent where i reads it in one day

I enjoyed Leilas story, it was incredibly unconventional but that seemed to fit her as a character! What happened in the past seems to motivate her throughout her life and sometimes I did get a bit annoyed with her, look up and to the future

I struggled with the way the story jumped between time periods and keeping up with that was a struggle but I did understand that there was more impact doing it that way, it also followed through on the way the past impacts Leilas life.

This book focuses on family and relationship issues and it is well written and flows properly. There are parallels that many readers would be able to see between their own lives and Leilas, I know I identified with her on more that one occasion and I think that helps to bond with Leila.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has ever had to chose between 2 people who make you happy
