Redeeming the Reclusive Earl by Virginia Heath

Redeeming the Reclusive Earl

His heart is a fortress… And she’s trespassing!
After losing all he holds dear in a horrific fire, Max Aldersley, Earl of Rivenhall, shuns the world—until he catches Effie Nithercott digging holes on his estate! He banishes the intrepid archaeologist and the unsettled feelings she rouses within him. But she returns even more determined and infuriatingly desirable than before! He wonders just how deep she’s prepared to dig—so far she’ll reach the man beneath his scars?

A fabulous story that had me hooked from page one!
Max was injured, burned in a battle at sea and since returning to the uk and leaving the navy he has hidden himself away, determined to become a recluse. He suffered through people being cruel about his scars and when he meets Effie, he expects her to be the same
Effie is eccentric, she is the daughter of a professor and incredibly clever, retaining everything that she has read. This makes her unpopular in the local community and she almost isolates herself from them in the same way they keep away from her. Effie is also an archeologist and is conducting a dig site in Max’s grounds.
Their relationship is unconventional and this made them really appeal to me, they felt like real people, I can just imagine Max’s face when Effie says some of the things she does and it makes me smile
Their story is so well written that it dragged me in and wouldn’t let me go. Reading about a part of history I don’t have much experience of, archeology and people finding things for the first time. Effies joy when she discovers something new is infectious and I wanted to stay reading so I could see what she may find next
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy historical romances with unconventional characters and a very smart heroine!

When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Despite that, it still takes her forever to fall asleep.
