Love on the Rocks
Escaping a difficult childhood, unhappy marriage and dead-end job, Rachel McIntyre has escaped to the tiny Hebridean island of Inniscreag in search of a new beginning.
Taking a job as the manager of the local distillery, she’s just settling into her new life when the elderly, eccentric owner dies, unexpectedly leaving her two hundred year old family legacy in Rachel’s inexperienced hands.
Can she keep the small, community business alive in the face of a takeover attempt from a major multinational corporation? And can she resist the charms of the flirtatious, attractive company lawyer who arrives on the island to persuade her to sell up?
Join Rachel and the quirky inhabitants of Inniscreag – along with a couple of unexpected arrivals – in this funny, heartwarming tale about love, loss and having the courage to start over.
Once I got into this book I was hooked
Rachel has inherited a distillery on the small island of Inniscreag, near Skye in Scotland but there is drama ahead. A major chain drinks brand wants to buy the distillery and has sent their lawyer Duncan over to persuade her to sell but sparks fly between her and Duncan
I liked Rachel as a character, she is strong, independent, totally happy and accepted into island life. She knows what she is good at and her passion and she is determined to fight to protect the distillery and protect the previous owners legacy. She also has the support of the community and they will help her no matter what
I will admit that I struggled to get into this book, it took me a while to warm to Rachel and throughout she would do things that annoyed me but once I got into it I was hooked, I couldn’t wait to see what would happen next which! I would occasionally have liked to see things from Duncan’s view as I could only see him through Rachel when I think he had a much deeper story that I would have loved to know more about
I also loved hearing about island life as it’s so different to mine and it made me want to visit the various islands even more. I love the sea and the descriptions were fabulous and showed how it can change throughout the year
This book also reinforced that someone’s exterior may not be their personality and seeing below the front they portray can show some changes that you might actually like!
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy a romance with lots of drama and a fabulous setting full of community spirit
